A task force of group leaders will be meeting on February 7 to plan a course
of action to recommend to New Jersey homeschoolers, so no immediate action is
needed. A message will be posted after that meeting to list suggested actions
and to provide updates.
Until then, it is important to get the word out to all New Jersey homeschoolers
and let them know about this bill introduced on January 26, 2004 and sponsored
by Asseblywoman Loretta Weinberg of District 37 (Bergen). This bill will require
certain testing and medical examinations of homeschooled children.

1 An Act concerning home-schooled children and
supplementing
2 chapters 7C of Title 18A of the New Jersey
Statutes.

4 Be It Enacted by the Senate and General
Assembly of the State
5 of New Jersey:

7 1. A home-schooled child shall be administered
each of the
8 Statewide assessment tests required by the State of public
school
9 pupils that are appropriate for the grade level of the
child. The tests
10 shall be administered in a school of the resident school district.

12 2. The parents or guardians of a
home-schooled child shall provide
13 documentation to the resident district board of education
no later than
14 September 1 of each year that the child has undergone an
annual
15 medical examination.

17 3. The State Board of Education shall
promulgate rules and
18 regulations pursuant to the "Administrative Procedure Act,"
P.L. 1968
19 c.410 (C.52:14B-1 et seq.) which are necessary to
effectuate the
20 provisions of this act.

22 4. This act shall take effect
immediately.

27 This bill provides that a home-schooled child must be
